Consider Meditation
Most think of meditation as a religious philosophy. There are many non-religious benefits that can be reached thru meditation. First, choose the area of your life you want to focus, such as health, finances, relationship, career just to mention a few. If you have no idea what to do, you first need to uncover your dream or stop resisting the one you already have. Then you need to set goals. Set realistic goals. Start with an achievable goal, not one that is impossible. Set a time frame to achieve your goals. Divide the ultimate goal into several smaller goals, like stair steps. “Small drops of water can fill a bucket”. Complete the first goal before jumping to the second etc. ...

Is Meditation for You?
What Is Meditation? There are various types of meditation - such as TM (Transcendental Meditation), mindfulness meditation, and from the Eastern tradition, Zen meditation and Buddhist meditation. Meditation uses such diverse methods as: Formal sitting in which the body is held immobile and the attention controlled. Expressive practices , in which the body is let free and anything can happen. e.g., Siddha Yoga. The practice of "Intentional Living" meditation is doing all you do mindfully and without stress. Being in the moment and enjoying the process of "doing"! Meditation will enable one to focus on quieting the busy mind. The intention is not to remove stimulation...

The Personal Benefits of Meditation and Yoga
There would be little point in practicing meditation if it had no benefits, but from my own limited experience, the benefits of meditation are numerous. I can only imagine what benefits will be obtained by those who have practiced meditation more regularly, and with more expertise, over a longer number of years, than I have. Before listing some of my own personal benefits, those that have been clear to me through experience, let us just consider meditation itself. Meditation is a powerful spiritual practice, and the regular act of meditation can help a great deal in one’s spiritual development. Through the practice of meditation, the person meditating is able to focus on each part of his...

Health Benefits Of Meditation

Author:
Allison Preston

Meditation is one of the top-10 alternative therapies used by the U. S. population. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine reports that 8% of Americans use meditation as a health tool. No longer just for Buddhist monks and New-Age types, meditation is now appealing to mainstream business professionals, medical doctors and even health care companies. This is a result of the growing evidence which supports that meditation can promote physical healing.

Meditation may be spiritual for some, but the practice is not necessarily religious in nature. There are many meditative approaches but regardless of the technique, medical research indicates that the practice of meditation tends to evoke a state of physiological relaxation: blood pressure drops, heart beats slower and breathing is quieter, other biochemical changes can also occur. Scientists do not understand why the changes happen but understanding the physical effects can explain the potential health benefits of meditation.

Twenty minutes of daily meditation can provide relief for ailments such as low back pain, headaches, depression and anxiety. Suffers of these chronic conditions should attempt to incorporate the meditation practice into their daily routine. If meditation can lower blood pressure, it could be a useful tool in helping patients with hypertension. If scientists uncover exactly how meditation works to relieve these symptoms, they may be able to apply that understanding to treat a variety of other disorders.

Research on meditation began back in the late 1960s. Herbert Benson, MD, began studying the physiological impact of Transcendental Meditation on individuals. In recent years, the scope of studies has focused on how the practice can reduce symptoms of chronic illnesses from cardiovascular disease to cancer. Critics indicate some of the research is been on small study populations and has not had adequate control groups for comparison. But some studies have shown promising results.

Meditation can relax the body. Promote more restful sleep and boost the body's immune system. This will help fight illness and better manage the symptoms of chronic conditions. Meditation can relax the mind and help us better deal with the stress of our daily lives. The popular interest in meditation and its health benefits may help drive more research in the future.

Active Meditation / Visualization
Part One Choose a nature scene. For instance scenery of mountain, meadow or ocean to picture and imagine during your session. You might consciously choose a particular scene and find that when you close your eyes and relax a different scene pops into your mental vision. That is fine, go with the new scene but once you have started the meditation stay with that scene for that session. Choose whatever scenery accommodates your feelings for that day. Allow your eyes to close. Exhale contracting the abdomen gently. Inhale by expanding the lower abdomen like it was a balloon. Inhale, Inhale, Inhale, Inhale And exhale contracting the abdomen gently Breathe slowly and rhythmically Observe how the body releases tightness with every exhalation Continue inhaling and exhaling being aware on the inhale that the oxygen is relaxing your muscles from your toes to scalp as well as deep to your core Relaxation flowing deep, deep, deep right to the space between your atoms Watch the breath like it is a wave that is breathing you Feel relaxation deepen with every breath as if your body is spreading and melting out Observe the breath happening On the inhalation, observe the energy of the oxygen that you draw through your body from toes to scalp On the exhale contract the abdomen gently and feel the deepening and strengthening sense of peace and relaxation Sense any areas of blockage and direct relaxation there Like finding a closed door and opening it Release your consciousness of the breath when you sense the body is totally open Now maintaining your body's sense of deep peace and relaxation, imagine yourself in a mountain, meadow or ocean setting. Use all your senses to develop the image. Start with whichever sensation feels the strongest. Depending on how...
